Halloween Safety Tips: A Spooky-Good Way to Connect with New Neighbours

Moving into a new neighbourhood can be a bit eerie, especially with Halloween just around the corner. But fear not! Halloween is actually a fantastic opportunity to meet your new neighbours and build lasting friendships.
At MTS Moving and Storage, we want to help you settle into your new community while keeping safety top of mind. Follow these tips for a fun and safe Halloween, and maybe even make some new friends along the way.

Safety First

  • Costume Safety: Make sure costumes fit properly, are flame-resistant, and allow for good visibility. Add reflective tape or accessories if you'll be out after dark.
  • Trick-or-Treating Safety: Go in groups, carry flashlights or glow sticks, and stick to well-lit streets. Remind children not to enter strangers' homes. For more trick-or-treating safety tips, visit the Canadian Red Cross website [invalid URL removed].
  • Candy Safety: Inspect all candy before eating. Discard any open or suspicious-looking treats.
  • Home Safety: Keep walkways and porches well-lit and free of obstacles. Use battery-powered candles or LED lights in jack-o'-lanterns to avoid fire hazards.
  • Pet Safety: Keep pets indoors during trick-or-treating hours to prevent them from getting frightened or running away.

Frightfully Fun Ways to Connect

  • Organize a Neighbourhood Event: A block party, costume parade, or haunted house is a great way to break the ice and have some fun with your new neighbours.
  • Decorate Your Home: Show your Halloween spirit and invite conversation by decorating your home and yard.
  • Hand Out Treats: Be prepared with plenty of candy for trick-or-treaters and engage in friendly conversations with families.
  • Offer Help: If you see new neighbours struggling with decorations or need assistance, offer a helping hand.
  • Introduce Yourself: Take the initiative to introduce yourself and your family to neighbours. A simple "hello" and a smile can go a long way!
